E-commerce Website Development
We build complete online stores: the theme, the collections, the product pages, the checkout and everything a shopper passes through on the way to it. We build on Shopify, on Wix, or from scratch, and the first thing we do is tell you which one your business should be on, because that decision can cost more over the life of a store than the build itself.
Custom quoteEvery store is quoted against its catalogue, its integrations and its platform, in writing, before anything starts.
Shopify, Wix or custom, decided by the numbers
Most platform comparisons argue about features. The decision is usually settled by a percentage. Shopify charges an extra fee on every order if you use any payment gateway other than Shopify Payments: 2.0% on Basic, 1.0% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, on top of the gateway’s own rate, according to Shopify’s Help Centre. Wix charges its own transaction fee on its lower tiers. A custom build has no platform cut at all, but you pay for the build once and for maintenance after it.
Where you sell matters as much as what you sell. Shopify Payments is not offered in every country, Türkiye included, and where it is not, the surcharge is permanent. Below roughly $10,000 a month a platform is almost always right; above it, the numbers are worth running. We set out the full comparison in Shopify vs Wix vs WooCommerce vs a custom build.
Shopify stores that grow with the catalogue
Wallniture’s retail store has been live on Shopify since 2020 and has grown alongside the range rather than being rebuilt around it: collections for wall shelves, display ledges, kids and nursery, and brackets, editorial tiles that route shoppers by room instead of by SKU, filtered and sorted collection pages, and product pages carrying full galleries, video, local pickup and Shop Pay checkout. It now sells over 200 products a month.
For Rustic State, the brief was a store the team could keep adding to without a developer in the loop. The work went into the theme, the collection structure and the product templates, so the layout holds as the cast iron range expands rather than degrading into an unsorted grid.
When Wix is the right answer
For a small catalogue, run by someone who is not a developer, on a predictable monthly bill, Wix is a real answer, and dismissing it is snobbery. It gets a store online quickly and lets the owner edit it without help. Where it stops is scale: as the catalogue and the order volume grow, you meet the edges of what the platform lets you change. That is not a flaw, it is the trade you make for not having to maintain anything.
We build on Wix when that trade is the right one, and we will tell you when a store has outgrown it. This site used to run on Wix too, before we rebuilt it as a custom site.
Custom builds, for logic no theme allows
Some stores do not fit a storefront. Wallniture for Business needed a specification catalogue and a bulk quote flow rather than a cart, so it was built from scratch beside the Shopify retail store. The Gun Database is a custom web application over a catalogue of more than 1,100 entries, with a command palette, instant search, side-by-side comparison and user accounts.
A custom build means no platform takes a percentage of your orders: you integrate a payment provider directly and pay their rate. The honest counterweight is that you also inherit what the platform was handling, including payment security scope, checkout edge cases, fraud and tax rules. On custom builds you get the source code and repository access, so the store is yours rather than ours.
The store and the imagery from one studio
A store is only as good as its product pages, and product pages are mostly pictures. Much of the imagery running through Wallniture’s store comes from the same studio that built it, from the CGI and photography we have produced for the brand since 2016. We can render the product images, build 3D and AR models for the product pages, and build the store they sit in, so the three are planned together rather than retrofitted.

Getting started
What to send us.
Your catalogue
A product export or spreadsheet with variants, prices and stock, plus the images you have. Gaps are fine; we will list them.
Where you sell
The countries you sell from and ship to, which decides the payment options, and so often the platform.
Your current site
If there is one, what works, what does not, and the URLs that must keep working.
What it connects to
Accounting, inventory, warehouse or marketplace systems the store has to send orders to or read stock from.
Process
How it works.
- 01
Platform recommendation
Shopify, Wix or custom, recommended in writing with the numbers behind it, before any build is quoted.
- 02
Scope and quote
A fixed scope, price and delivery date for the route chosen.
- 03
Design and build
Templates, collections and product pages built on a staging store you can test before anything goes live.
- 04
Launch
On your domain, with every old URL redirected to its new address so existing links and rankings are kept.
- 05
Handover and support
Your team shown how to run the store, with documentation and a support window after launch.
Questions
Common questions.

How much does an e-commerce website cost?
It is quoted against the store, because the range is wide. A Shopify or Wix build depends on the size of the catalogue, how much of the theme is custom, and what it connects to. A custom build is a software project. Platform plan fees are paid to Shopify or Wix directly, on top of the build.
Should I build on Shopify, Wix or custom?
Physical products in a country where Shopify Payments is available: usually Shopify. A small catalogue with no technical staff: Wix. Business-to-business quoting, configurators or logic no theme allows: custom. Under roughly $10,000 a month, a platform is almost always the right call.
Can you build a store if Shopify Payments is not available in my country?
Yes. Shopify then runs on a local payment gateway, with Shopify’s extra fee on every order. Where that fee is permanent and volume is real, a custom build with a direct payment provider is worth pricing, and we will show you both.
Can you migrate our existing store?
Yes, between Wix, Shopify and custom builds. Products, collections and content are moved, and every old URL is redirected to its new address so existing links and search rankings are not lost.
Will we be able to update the store ourselves?
That is the brief we build to. For Rustic State the whole point was a catalogue the team could extend without a developer, and every store is handed over with documentation.
How long does it take to build an online store?
It depends on the platform, the catalogue and the integrations, so it is dated with the quote rather than guessed here. You get the delivery date in writing before anything starts.
